Transitions Championship Golf Marshall
This past spring I got to be a golf marshall at the Transitions Golf Championship at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort. What a great time I had.
Getting to be part of the tournament was awesome. Of course I didn't swing any clubs or hit any balls for the pros but I did get to help them find their balls and keep the crows a little quitter.
What Does A Golf Marshall Do?
Copperhead #6 Hole
I was a marshall on the 6th hole at The Copperhead Course. Now the 6th is a long par four dogleg right. It's a blind tee shot (you can't see the fairway) and the fairway slopes sharply from right to left so any drive is going to roll left once it lands.
Here's the view from the tee...

There's plenty of trees on each side of the hole too. It's about 450 yards from the pro tees so it demands a great drive. Many of the pros ended up in those trees. So when I was marshalling in the landing area I had to help find and mark the ball for the players.
The Approach Shot
If they hit the fairway, the pros were left with anywhere from 160 to 200 yards for their second shot. Fred Funk had about 215 yards after his drive. And the green is very challenging and hard to hit as well. I'm guessing that about 50% hit the green in the first couple of days of the tournament.

So this hole requires a bit of mashalling.
On the tee you can't see the players in the fairway so the marshalls in the landing area have to let the marshalls on the tee know when it's OK to hit.
